If you're into golf and great movies, or even just entertaining films, Netflix has added the movie for you — and it has a near-perfect 97 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Long Game, the kind of under-the-radar movie you might not have heard of, was released in 2023 to minor critical acclaim. It's now been added to Netflix and is available on Netflix both in the US and UK.

The period drama, starring Dennis Quaid and Jay Hernandez, is based on a true story and is adapted from the book "Mustang Miracle" by Humberto G. Garcia. It tells the amazing story of a group of young Mexican-American caddies in the 1950s.

The five caddies were banned from playing on the courses where they caddied, so instead built their own one-hole course to play on! They had hardly any equipment and would retrieve discarded clubs from the bins.

After practicing hard on their golf course in the South Texas desert, they became great golfers. And despite limited resources and racial prejudice, they managed to beat the odds and win the 1957 Texas State High School Golf Championship against all-white schools.

Dennis Quaid plays golf pro and assistant golf coach Frank Mitchell in the film. He also produced the movie with his wife Laura. Talking to Parade about the film, he said: "It’s a true story, and it's an American dream story. It says how far we've come and it also is a reminder of where we were, and we still have a ways to go."

The Long Game won an audience award at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival. Its runtime is just 112 minutes and if you want a feelgood sports movie then this is a great choice for you. We also have a guide on the best Netflix movies to stream right now if you'd like more picks.
