Philip Glenister says he owes his career to Amanda Redman
Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes star Philip Glenister has credited his sister-in-law, actress Amanda Redman, for launching his career.
Philip, 51, has had a long and successful TV career, which he says he owes to New Tricks star Amanda.
“When my brother Robert was married to Amanda, I was in an am-dram group. They came to see me and she said, ‘Have you thought about doing this professionally?’,” Philip recalls.
Amanda later helped him prepare for auditions. “I’d never done Shakespeare, so she sort of trained me up. Now she runs a successful school in west London and always jokes I’m a prototype.”
Philip stars in new BBC three-part drama From There To Here, which follows a Manchester family during important events in their lives including the 1996 IRA bomb, the rise of New Labour and the turn of the new Millennium.
Philip also recently tried his hand at presenting for the Channel 4 show For The Love Of Cars.
“The hardest part was talking to the camera,” he confessed. “I’m trained to be in a room where the cameras don't exist and suddenly you're being asked to look down the lens, so that was tricky.”
