Actress Angharad Rees, best known for starring in the 1970s TV hit Poldark, has died aged 63 after a long battle against pancreatic cancer. The Welsh-born star, who also appeared in the 60s drama The Way We Live Now, played Demelza Poldark in the 18th Century set show, about a British officer returning home after escaping the Revolutionary War. She also starred in a number of other TV productions including the small screen adaptation of Under Milk Wood, as well as appearing in Remington Steele and several Play For Today productions in the 1970s. Angharad also had an extensive career on the stage and in film, and away from acting ran a successful jewellery company whose creations featured in the Oscar-nominated movie Elizabeth. She was married to actor Christopher Cazenove for more than 20 years, and they had two sons, Linford and Rhys - with the former tragically dying in a car crash on the M11 in Essex in 1999. A statement released by her family confirmed the news. "Angharad passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside," it read. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends."
