Rooney aims to find star on 'football factor' show
Wayne Rooney is to search for the country's best undiscovered footballer in a new TV show. The England and Manchester United player has signed up for the series on Sky One. Wayne Rooney's Street Striker will also give an insight into the newlywed's life and personality. Rooney, 22, and a team of judges will whittle down 50 candidates before two finalists go head-to-head to win an, as yet, undisclosed prize. Wannabe football stars will be asked to apply to join the series next month. A source told TV trade magazine Broadcast: "This series isn't about kids doing keepie uppies in the park. It's beautifully shot real street football." Rooney married his childhood sweetheart, Coleen McLoughlin, on the Italian Riviera earlier this month. Details of the wedding were kept under wraps as part of a £2.5 million magazine deal. Sky One later confirmed that the three-part series will be broadcast on Sky One and Sky One HD this autumn. Donna Taberer, Commissioning Editor, Entertainment and Features, Sky One, Two and Three, said: "It's a fantastic coup to bring Wayne Rooney to Sky One. The competition is brilliant and we will undoubtedly uncover some amazing new talent."
