Rylan Clark has been eliminated from The X Factor, missing out on a place in this year's semi-final after his luck finally ran out in Sunday's sing-off. The 24-year-old Essex boy lost out to the one remaining group, Union J, who made it through to next weekend after winning the majority vote from the judges - with only Rylan's mentor Nicole Scherzinger opting to save him. The result came after Rylan had performed the Athlete track Wires in a bid to remain in the competition while Union J sung Snow Patrol's Run. And while Louis and Nicole both opted to save their acts, the vote then went in Union J's favour as Gary and Tulisa gave their verdicts. "Union J you are the band everyone is going to want to sign in this competition," Gary Barlow said, "Rylan, you have been an amazing contestant and I'm so glad because tonight that was your best vocal performance and one of my favourite songs. "We've had great fun and none of it's personal," he added, "But the act I'm sending home I'm sad to say is Rylan." Tulisa also praised the singer, saying, "Rylan you have entertained me, you have made me smile, I have to go with the act that I feel has the most potential to sell records and it pains me to say this but the act I'm sending home is Rylan." Afterwards Rylan, who kept smiling despite his disappointment, said, "It feels so right. I have had seven bonus weeks in this competition. "This show is one of the most absolute pleasures to be a part of, so thank you for letting me be a part of it," he added. Rylan's departure means that Union J proceed to next weekend's semi-final along with Jahmene Douglas. Christopher Maloney and James Arthur - who made it through on the public vote after narrowly avoiding elimination last weekend when he found himself in the bottom two with Ella Henderson.
