Eurovision: Making Your Mind Up has been hit by further controversy over claims that Scooch mimed their song. Rivals including Justin Hawkins and Brian Harvey believe that Scooch duped the public into voting without knowing that they had two hidden backing singers to boost the performance of winning song Flying The Flag (For You), according to The Mirror. A source close to ex-Darkness frontman Justin said: "Everyone was furious that Scooch had two ghost singers who weren't on stage. "The general feeling was the public were being misled as they would have thought the group's singing was better than it really was." While Scooch have admitted to using two backing singers, the camp quartet insisted that they sang live on the track. Scooch's spokesperson Andrew Hill accused the losing rivals of 'sour grapes'. The BBC also said that Scooch broke no rules by having the hidden singers. A spokeswoman said: "Scooch won fair and square in a vote by the British public. "They, and any other acts, are allowed within the Eurovision rules to have backing singers out of vision. All of Scooch sang live." This latest storm will cause further embarrassment to the BBC after host Terry Wogan gaffed by incorrectly announcing Cyndi as the winner on Saturday night's Making Your Mind Up, which pulled in more than 6.2 million viewers. And yesterday, whatsontv.co.uk reported that angry Justin branded the British public "racist or stupid" for not voting for his singing partner Beverlei Brown or rap group Big Brovaz.
