Sid Owen waltzes off Strictly Come Dancing
Sid Owen has become the latest casualty of Strictly Come Dancing after losing out to Colin Salmon in the latest dance off of the series. The EastEnders star had been the favourite for the chop after finishing bottom of the judges' scoreboard for the second week in a row. However his luck ran out this week when he found himself in the bottom two - and after both he and Colin had reprised their routines it was ultimately the Bond actor who made it through to next weekend. Bruno Tonioli, Craig Revel Horwood and Darcey Bussell all voted to save Colin and partner Kristina Rihanoff, with Craig saying, "This couple were dynamic and simply better dancers," while Bruno Tonioli added, "It's good that both switched up a gear but the stronger couple were Colin and Kristina." Darcey Bussell agreed, saying, "They both performed so much better it's so hard, but I'm going to have to save Colin and Kristina," - although Len Goodman later admitted he would have saved Sid instead. "If it had been down to me I would have saved them," he said, "Colin's got one part of that routine he can't get to grips with and I can't forgive huge mistakes." Sid said afterwards he had "loved every minute" of his brief time on the show and also praised dance partner Ola Jordan. "She's a taskmaster but she has been great and we have had so much fun," he said, "and now I feel comfortable going out and maybe having a little dance." Ola, meanwhile, added, "I've enjoyed every minute and it's too soon to go." This week had been a difficult one for Ola, who was forced to miss out on rehearsals after she returned home to Poland to be with her mother who had suffered a heart attack. Iveta Lukosiute, who previously stepped in to partner Johnny Ball after Aliona Vilani broke her ankle, coached Sid during the week until Ola returned. However the couple found themselves bottom of the heap for the second week running, scoring just 17 points out of 40 for their cha cha cha to the theme from Ghostbusters. Although Darcey praised Sid for including "more content" in the routine, Craig dubbed it a "Halloween nightmare". Ten other celebrities including favourites Louis Smith and Denise Van Outen made it straight through to next weekend on the strength of the public vote.
