Stars from the world of soap are due on the red carpet on Saturday night at the annual British Soap Awards. This year Emmerdale is leading the nominations thanks to the storyline in which Aaron Livesy struggles with his sexuality. The soap has received a nomination in each of the nine categories voted for by a panel of experts, putting it ahead of rivals Coronation Street and EastEnders who have eight nominations each. Doctors is just behind with six nominations and Hollyoaks has five. The moment Aaron (played by Danny Miller) came out as gay has won the ITV soap a nomination for Best Single Episode, Aaron's Gay Self-Loathing has been nominated for Best Storyline, while Danny himself has been nominated for Best Dramatic Performance in the awards. However it faces stiff competition from EastEnders' Who Killed Archie, which is also nominated for Best Storyline. Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey in the BBC One show, has been nominated for Best Dramatic Performance, while the show's 25th anniversary live episode, in which she was named as Archie's killer, has been put forward as Best Single Episode. Actor Charlie Clements, played by Bradley Branning, is also nominated for Best Exit following his dramatic depature in the live episode. Other nominees include EastEnders' Scott Maslen, who will be hoping to win the Sexiest Male award once again, while Corrie's Michelle Keegan is once again in the running for Sexiest Female. And Coronation Street, EastEnders, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and Doctors will fight it out for the top prize of Best British Soap. The glitzy ceremony will feature 17 awards in total, voted for either by a panel experts or viewers.
