Stephen Mulhern lands own TV series with Saturday Night Takeaway sketch In For A Penny
ITV confirmed the Saturday Night Takeaway spin-off!
ITV bosses have confirmed that Stephen Mulhern’s Saturday Night Takeaway sketch, In For A Penny in For A Grand, is finally getting its own spin-off.
After months of rumours, Declan Donnelly appeared to confirm the news during a segment on last night’s Saturday Night Takeaway after Stephen dazzled Americans with his hilarious antics.
In a fake phone call to an ITV boss, Dec said that Stephen’s show had been given the green light – news which was later confirmed by ITV.
Hanging up the phone, the former Byker Grove actor suddenly revealed: ‘Oh Stephen I can’t believe I’m saying this, they’re giving you a series.’
Delighted, Stephen was gobsmacked with the news and celebrated on-stage.
‘In For A Penny has been commissioned for a series on ITV, hosted by Stephen Mulhern,’ a spokesperson said in a statement.

Last year, Stephen teased that there were talks happening about a spin-off, saying: ‘Ant & Dec asked me to do it, which is really exciting. I just knew it was a winner. It's gone down well. We're hoping to get it off the ground later this year.
‘We just need some time to work on it. Ideally, we'd make the cash prizes bigger too, just to up the ante.’
Stephen also admitted that he wanted to bring back the ‘golden days’ of TV, adding: ‘I love working with members of the public and I think you can have a lot of fun with them.’
