The actor and writer says he hopes the allure of Inside No. 9 will make it an essential show that all Britain's best actors want to star in it
The actor and writer Steve Pemberton says he hopes Inside No. 9 will become an essential role on every actor's CV, like Doctor Who.
The cult BBC2 mystery series has featured a stunning array of British talent in the first three series and series four, which was just finished filming, will feature the likes of Monica Dolan, Zoë Wanamaker, Emilia Fox, Kenneth Cranham, Noel Clarke, Nicola Walker, and many more.
Steve, who also starred in Benidorm, said: "Absolutely, it's one of those things that we hope people have on their wish list like being in Doctor Who... Doing a No. 9. It's great, I can walk into a room like this and I know so many of the actors because I've worked with them on No. 9."
But the highly imaginative series, whose only unifying thread is the mysterious number nine, was difficult to keep fresh, he added.
"It is difficult because I think with the first series we set the bar quite high. To keep surprising people and doing new things is very hard, but so far touch wood we've managed to do it."
Steve created and writes the series with Reece Shearsmith and the pair first found fame with BBC2's cult comedy series The League of Gentleman. He revealed the duo were working on new sketches for a Christmas special this year.
