Steve Pemberton: 'The League Of Gentlemen may return!'
Steve Pemberton has teased there could be a revival of hit show The League Of Gentlemen, if they can get all the team back together.
Steve, Reece Shearsmith, Mark Gatiss and Jeremy Dyson created the bizarre world of Royston Vasey and characters such as local shop owners Tubbs and Edward, circus performer Papa Lazarou and sinister butcher Hilary Briss for the stage. It went on to become a radio show, and then won legions of fans as a three season TV series for BBC2 and a spin-off movie.
Steve, who is currently appearing with Reece in the second series of their latest dark comedy Inside No 9, revealed: “I think if we put our minds to it and sat down with Jeremy and Mark on a nice afternoon we could easily come up with stories and back stories -what they’ve all been up to and doing in the meantime.”
Since The League Of Gentlemen film in 2005, Steve and Reece have worked together on Psychoville and Inside No 9, Mark has been busy co-writing Sherlock and Doctor Who and writer Jeremy has worked on comedies including The Armstrong And Miller Show and The Wrong Mans.
Steve said if they did revive the villagers of Royston Vasey, they would not be able to change them too much.

He said: “I think people if they know a character and love a character they don’t like you to change too much about it.

“I think people are inherently conservative when it comes to their favourite character. So when we put Pauline in prison, people were like, ‘No put her back in the restart room, that’s where we see that happening!’ So I think sometimes it’s a mistake to give your characters too much life.”
Inside No 9 continues on Thursday, BBC2 at 10.00pm.
