Strictly fans praised Alexandra for her bravery following the impressive dance

It was another incredible Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night as the celebrity hopefuls wowed the judges and viewers at home during an epic week four.

And it was former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke who really stole the show after she received a standing ovation for her incredible jive to Tina Turner’s Proud Mary.

On Saturday night, she blew everyone away and even scooped a staggering 39 points out of 40 from the judges – the highest score of the series so far.

New judge, Shirley Ballas was left 'speechless' by the dance, while notoriously hard man to please, Craig Revel Horwood told her: "I have no idea where that came from. You were out there dancing to split the atom. My goodness, you created a nuclear reaction."

But it was also an emotional moment for the singer, who broke down in tears after the impressive scores came in as she remembered her late mum Melissa Bell, who passed away in August.

"I wish my mum was here," Alexandra told host, Claudia Winkleman as she was comforted by her dance partner, Gorka Marquez.

"You did so well, and you have done her proud," Claudia said, before adding: "We will get you to your boyfriend and your brother, OK?"

As her Strictly pals rushed to hug Alexandra, viewers at home took to Twitter to praise the star for her bravery.

"Alexandra doing her mum proud. Made me cry AMAZING!" said one fan.

"The fact Alexandra can even stand up after losing her mum so recently gets a 10 from me", said another.

Former Strictly winner, Ore Oduba added: "Alexandra Burke, you're mum would be SO proud. Incredible. And so deserved. #proudmary #proudmum #wegotTENS".

The 29-year-old had previously said her mum would have wanted her to continue with the show and promised to do her proud.

“My being on the show was a dream of hers, as well as mine, so doing the best I can on Strictly means a lot to me. My mum was my biggest critic. And she has turned me into a perfectionist; everything I do is for her,” she told Radio Times.

Alexandra's incredible score of 39 left her at the top of the leaderboard this week, with Gemma Atkinson and Aljaz Skorjanec just behind after bagging 35 for their paso doble.

While TV chef Simon Rimmer and Good Morning Britain presenter Charlotte Hawkins were left at the bottom after they each scored 19 from the judges.

We'll have to wait and see what happens on tonight's results show!
