Strictly Come Dancing star Ruth Langsford has declared that she’s taking part on the BBC1 hit, which kicks off on Saturday night, for the “menopausal women of Britain!”
Talking ahead of the live shows beginning the This Morning presenter, who’s dancing with Anton Du Beke, said: “I’m doing this for the more mature, menopausal women of Britain! My 15-year-old son Jack has been practising the steps with me.”
The 15 fab-u-lous couples are all looking forward to fighting it out for the Strictly trophy.
Gemma Atkinson commented: "Every time I get an acting job my family says, 'That’s amazing – but could you do Strictly instead?' They screamed when I told them I’m doing it. I’m mostly worried about running up the stairs after the dance.”
Meanwhile, Rev Richard Coles, who’s dancing with Dianne Buswell, laughed: “Vicars are seen as austere, so I’ll do a sizzling Argentine tango. There was a knock at the door last night and I said, 'I can’t come, I’m exfoliating for the first time!'"
The competition, then, will really get into full swing tonight as incoming judge “Queen of Latin” Shirley Ballas and her fellow panellists Bruno Tonioli, Craig Revel Horwood and Darcey Bussell get their first taste of what the dancing duos are capable of achieving.
