Suranne Jones to star in BBC1 ghost story

Scott and Bailey star Suranne Jones is to star in the BBC's modern ghost story The Secret of Crickley Hall. Suranne, who also played Karen MacDonald in Coronation Street, is Eve Caleigh, who moves into Crickley Hall with her husband Gabe (Miranda's Tom Ellis) a year after the disappearance of their young son. Crickley seems like the perfect destination to try and escape the past, but as the cellar door starts opening of its own accord, and unseen children are heard crying through the night, it becomes clear that things aren't as they should be. Just as the family prepare to move out of the hall Eve hears her missing son, and time begins to shift between the present day and wartime England as the Caleighs try to find the connection between Crickley Hall and their lost child. Will they find him before the evil in Crickley Hall finds their other children?  Suranne said: "The Secret of Crickley Hall is a classic haunted house spine chiller with an emotional family story at its heart." The three-part ghost story, which will air at Halloween, is adapted from the novel The Secret of Crickley Hall, by bestselling author James Herbert. Filming will start in Manchester this month, and Suranne and Tom will be joined by Primeval star Douglas Henshall, Wallander's David Warner and Sarah Smart, Iain De Caestecker from The Fades and Donald Sumpter, who starred in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Game of Thrones. Suranne is back on screens as DC Rachel Bailey on Monday when Scott and Bailey returns for a second series. She's joined by Lesley Sharp, who returns as DC Janet Scott, and former Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay, who plays Rachel's sister Alison.
