The Queen's Speech is an annual tradition for many on Christmas Day, and this year the Monarch's word may include a veiled reference to Brexit.
It's been revealed that Queen Elizabeth's speech will ask for “peace on Earth and goodwill to all” amid the country's divided opinion over Theresa May’s Brexit deal.
During the broadcast, which is recorded in Buckingham Palace’s white drawing room, the monarch will highlight Jesus’ message – often cited at Christmas.
The 92-year-old royal will say: “I believe his message of peace on Earth and goodwill to all is never out of date. It can be heeded by everyone; it’s needed as much as ever.”
She will add: “Even with the most deeply held differences, treating the other person with respect and as a fellow human being is always a good first step towards greater understanding.”
As head of state, the Queen remains publicly neutral when it comes to political matters and does not express her views on issues.
For her 66th message, Her Majesty wore a cocktail dress in ivory silk with pastel blue, white and gold lamé lace overlay designed by Miss Angela Kelly.
The brooch was a gift from The Duke of Edinburgh, in 1966. The special piece of jewellery is called the Scarab brooch, and was designed by Andrew Grima. It is crafted of yellow gold, with carved ruby with diamond embellishments.
The speech, which was recorded on December 12, will also include highlights of 2018, from England reaching the World Cup semi-finals to the weddings of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.
