Former chart star Kym Mazelle was among the familiar faces who appeared on The Voice on Saturday night as the second round of blind auditions were screened.
The singer, who scored a string of hits in the early 90s and was at the forefront of house music's rise to popularity in the UK, is one of a number of past hitmakers to try out for the show.
However she missed out on a spot in the next round after the judges failed to spin their chairs round for her soul-tinged rendition of Johnny Cash's Ring Of Fire.
"It didn't gel for me, the soul approach to a country song," Tom Jones told her, "Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't - but I thought your singing was better than what you did with the song."
Will.i.am added: "I want to thank you for being a pioneer and bringing house music to the UK because without that I wouldn't do what I'm doing."
Another familiar voice came from Lorraine Crosby, who revealed her claim to fame was singing on the Meat Loaf chart-topper I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)
And although the 52-year-old failed to win over any judges with her rendition of Midnight Train To Georgia, they still praised her for her efforts.
"You've got a great voice, I wanted you to do a riff or something to make it yours, that's why I didn't turn around," Jessie J told her.
Will, meanwhile, told her, "I thought your voice was magnificent," despite not turning around.
Others who impressed the judges included Welsh chef Ragsy, whose powerful performance won himself a place on Team Tom Jones despite Danny's attempts to win him over.
"I was looking for a really great rock singer, I think I've just found him," the Script frontman said.
Meanwhile Welsh hopeful Alys Williams made a return to The Voice stage after nerves got the better of her on last year's series.
This time around the 25-year-old proved far more successful, with her emotional performance prompting all four judges to turn around.
"This is that moment when you realise that taking the advice, going away and coming back can change everything," Danny said.
Jessie, meanwhile attempted to win Alys over with her shoe collection, and told her, "I feel like you'll disappear in those teams" - but ultimately she chose a place on Team Tom Jones.
Saturday's show saw Tom Jones win three more acts and Jessie pick up one more act, while will added two more acts to his team and Danny O'Donoghue's team increase by two more members.
