Scottish fireman Stevie McCrorie was favourite to win going in to The Voice final and win he did.
In the end, the contest was between Stevie and operatic singer Lucy O’Byrne, with fellow finalists Emmanuel Nwamadi and Sasha Simone eliminated first, after two songs each.
Stevie was the only finalist who had all four coaches turn for him in the Blind Auditions, singing Kodaline’s “All I Want” and he had them on their feet when he sang it again as his favourite song of the series.
He also sang “I’ll Stand By You” by The Pretenders and The Beatles’ “Get Back” as a duet with his coach, Ricky Wilson.
“Dreams are important and define who you are and tonight you defined yourself,” Ricky told Stevie. “You’ve got a pal for life.”
Stevie’s winner’s single, “Lost Stars”, will be released at midnight on April 4.
Lucy made an electrifying start to The Voice final - literally.
In a dress that lit up, Lucy sang “No Surprises” by Radiohead for her first song and her coach, will.i.am was - almost - speechless.
“That was magical,” Will said. “I don’t understand how you’re making that beautiful music with your voice. That’s pretty, freakin’ fantabulous.”
Then Lucy and Will sang “Habanera” from Carmen, the opera.
Well, Lucy sang and Will hip-hopped.
“I call it hip opera,” Will said. “It’s fusion”.
It didn’t fuse enough with the viewing voters, though, to keep Stevie from winning.
