Part celeb travelogue, part wine advice, The Wine Show returns with actors James Purefoy and Matthew Goode making an early case for landing 2018’s most enviable TV job. They travel to the South of France to find wines to accompany a six-course gourmet lunch chosen by Michelin-starred chef Stéphane Reynaud, guided by wine critic Jancis Robinson. They also try kayaking, caving and rounding up bulls on horseback. Wine expert Joe Fattorini and comedian Gina Yashere aren’t doing badly either, visiting California to learn how coffee can predict what wine you’d like. Meanwhile, in London, actor Matthew Rhys finds wine gadgets old and new. Rating: ****
Would I Lie to You?, 9.00pm, BBC1
Claude Littner is a genius signing for this show! Fresh from grilling the 2017 Apprentice candidates, Lord Sugar’s right-hand man has his poker face on as he tries to convince Lee Mack’s team that he’s bought himself a secret motorbike. Meanwhile, the biggest laughs of the night are reserved for Lee, who announces he’s bringing out a cook book called Wok around the Clock with Lee Mack. We don’t think Nigella will lose any sleep… Rating: ****
A Vicar’s Life, 8.30pm, BBC2
Who’d be a vicar in 2018? Church attendances are falling, congregations are ageing and proving that you’re still relevant is an uphill struggle. This six-part series heads to Hereford, the most rural of the Church of England’s dioceses, to meet the vicars trying to make a difference in a largely indifferent world. There’s Matthew Stafford, for instance, a keen collector of ‘religious tat’ who’s proud of his Cheesus Christ cheese grater, and whose wacky sense of humour is just one of the tools he’s using to stay connected to the modern world. But are engaged couple Mel and Stu ready for what Matthew has planned for their wedding? HHHH sm
