Alone at Home, 8pm, C4
In this new four-part series, one family a week will leave their children home alone for four days. Aged from eight to 16, the kids can do whatever they want, watched over by remote cameras and a film crew not too far away. The first kids are 16-year-old Millie, her sister Laurel, 13, and their stepbrother Ethan, 14. Mum Natalie usually does everything for them and wants them to understand what it takes to run a home. At first they live up to the stereotype – they don’t know how the dishwasher works and spend a fortune on taxis and takeaways. But ultimately the teens want to show their parents they can cope, and it’s amazing how their behaviour changes once they’re given the space to be more mature. Rating: ****
The Graham Norton Show, 10.35pm (times vary), BBC1
There’ll definitely be some excellent stories tonight, because star of stage and screen – and famed raconteur – Sir Ian McKellen is dropping by to tell all about his new one-man stage show. Actors Carey Mulligan and Taron Egerton are also gracing Graham’s sofa, and there’ll be chat and music from Canadian crooner Michael Bublé. Rating: ****
Bedtime Stories, 6.50pm, CBeebies
Orlando Bloom, of Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings fame, is the latest in a stellar list of celebrities to have read a Bedtime Story; other notables include Ewan McGregor, Sir Elton John, Dolly Parton, Suranne Jones and Eddie Redmayne. The British actor will read We Are Together, written and illustrated by Britta Teckentrup, about the importance of special friends and family in your life. Rating: ****
