TV Times tops picks for tonight
What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight three of the best shows on telly tonight for Friday 15th December
Feud: Bette and Joan, 9.00pm, BBC2
As Glee creator Ryan Murphy’s tale of the rancid relationship between two Hollywood stars begins, it’s 1961 and Joan Crawford and Bette Davis can’t get a good role to save their lives. Joan (Jessica Lange) sets about finding a project, and tries to get Bette (Susan Sarandon) on board, knowing their ongoing feud will be good publicity. It starts out entertainingly, with glamorous 1960s sets and dialogue just the right side of camp, but by the end of episode one (which co-stars Alfred Molina and Catherine Zeta-Jones), you’ll be absorbed in the story of two women with more in common than they’d ever admit. The full series will be available on BBC iPlayer from 10.45pm. Rating: ****
Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, 9.00pm, BBC1
Yes, it’s the silly season and Michael McIntyre needs no encouragement! Miranda Hart hands over her phone for the Celebrity Send To All, former One Directioner Niall Horan (pictured with Michael) provides the music, and there are laughs from Jason Manford. Plus, this week’s Unexpected Star is a doctor who’s led to believe the theatre is now a hotel… Rating: ****
Strictly Come Dancing, 6.30pm, BBC1
What a series! We fell in love with Shirley Ballas, discovered Debbie McGee can dance and learned that Craig can do a killer Bruno impression. Tonight, the audience alone will decide who lifts that fab-u-lous glitterball trophy after each pair has performed a favourite dance from the series, a past routine picked by the judges and, finally, that all-important showdance. Favourites have fallen at the final hurdle (remember dead cert Danny Mac losing to Ore Oduba last year?) and a bit of razzmatazz can clinch you the title, so who will put their best foot forward? Whoever wins, we’re going to miss the weekly sprinkle of sparkle! Rating: ****
