The British Soap Awards, 8pm, ITV
Brace yourself for big hair, sequins and enough fake tan to cover the Humber Bridge – it’s the British Soap Awards. And if the chance to see your soap favourites in their finery wasn’t enough, there are two additional reasons to tune in. For the first time ever, the show will be broadcast live, which means there’s plenty of potential for unexpected drama. Plus, to mark the event’s 20th anniversary, a gong will be presented for Greatest Soap Moment. EastEnders looks a shoo-in for its iconic ‘You ain’t my muvva!’ scene, but we’re tipping Corrie to come out on top, with wins for the likes of Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt) and Connor McIntyre – better known as baddie Pat Phelan. Nothing Like a Dame, 9pm, BBC2
Settle down for an absolute treat of a film, which unites four acting dames – Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Eileen Atkins and Joan Plowright – for an entertaining discussion about their life and work. While the archive footage of each of these national treasures is wonderful, the real joy is in seeing their easy, cheeky friendship as ‘Mags’, ‘Jude’ and co bicker about their views on key roles, the stars they have worked with over the years and even the merits of hearing aids! The formidable foursome also engage in some steely interaction with the nervous film crew whenever they are asked a tedious question or required to pose for one photo too many. They don’t make them like this any more! Rating: *****
Inspector Montalbano, 9pm, BBC4
Jealousy rears its head in Montalbano’s latest case, in which a beautiful woman is missing. ‘Just looking at her drives you crazy,’ Montalbano’s officer Mimi (Cesare Bocci) points out, even though Mimi is driven crazy by anything in a skirt, including a hovercraft. Complicating matters is the fact that the missing woman used to be a prostitute but gave it all up when she met and fell in love with a local engineer. Has he come down with an attack of old-world morality and killed her, unable to square her new self with her old one? At 10.50pm, another chance to see the drama’s real location in Sicily: Wonder of the Mediterranean. Rating: ****
