Strictly Come Dancing, 7.35pm, BBC1
Yes, at long last it’s time to glory in sequins and shimmy round your living room, as Strictly returns to our screens. Fifteen brand-new celebrities, including Faye Tozer from Steps, Danny John-Jules from Death in Paradise and presenter Katie Piper will anxiously await news of who their professional partner will be, while our fab-u-lous four judges look on with interest. Aside from the matchmaking, we’re guaranteed stupendous professional numbers, a chance to see the celebs in action in a very special group dance and hip-shaking music from Nile Rodgers and Craig David. We’re jumping out of our chairs with excitement, just like Bruno Tonioli! Rating: *****
The X Factor, 8.30pm, ITV
After some initial reservations, we’re loving this new-look panel of Robbie Williams – and his missus, Ayda – Louis Tomlinson and Simon Cowell. It’s great seeing Robbie disagreeing with Simon, and Ayda showing her other half who’s boss! And we like the fact that Louis knows exactly what it’s like to be a contestant. This show is, of course, all about the talent! And there’s plenty on offer as the auditions continue at Wembley Arena. Rating: ****
Last Night of the Proms, 7.15pm (not Scot) BBC2, 9pm BBC1
Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves. Yes, the roof of the Royal Albert Hall will be lifted by a stoked crowd on this traditionally boisterous finale to the Prom season. There is a nautical theme this year, as Sir Andrew Davis conducts the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Chorus and Singers through Stanford’s Songs of the Sea and Wood’s arrangement Fantasia on British Sea-Songs, just part of a packed evening that includes old faves Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance and Jerusalem. On CBeebies at 2pm, Justin Fletcher and the Something Special gang head to the Albert Hall for the second Relaxed Prom. And BBC Radio 2 has live coverage of Proms in the Park, starring Gladys Knight.
