After explaining in a recent interview how heroes come in all shapes, sizes, genders and ethnicities, Doctor Who’s new showrunner Chris Chibnall illustrates his point perfectly this week. It’s 1955 and the TARDIS lands in Montgomery, Alabama, on the eve of seamstress Rosa Parks’ arrest for refusing to give up her seat on the bus for a white passenger as city laws required. When a cosmic racist arrives in town with a sinister plan to stop the subsequent bus boycott and change the course of history, can the Doctor and her pals save the day? Vinette Robinson stars as the iconic activist in this powerful tale that will move children and adults alike. Rating: *****
The Cry, 9pm, BBC1
Woah – every time we think we’ve sussed out what’s happening in this gripping thriller, we’re thrown another curveball. Now, coming into the series finale, we’re not quite sure who to trust, but it’s clear that Alistair is much more manipulative than we originally realised. And with Joanna facing trial for Alistair’s murder, have we misjudged her, too, or is she wrongly accused? There are plenty more twists in store tonight as Joanna wakes up in a hospital bed, we learn more details about Noah’s last moments and we see flashbacks of how the broken couple attempted to rebuild their lives when they came back to Scotland. But how will it all end? Rating: *****
Mediterranean with Simon Reeve, 8pm, BBC2
Simon’s extraordinary journey around the Mediterranean continues in war-torn and chaotic Libya. He visits a town called Sirte, which lies between the capital Tripoli and Benghazi and was the last stronghold of Daesh (or so-called Islamic State). There he finds destruction on an apocalyptic scale, right on the edge of the crystal-blue waters of the Med. As Simon passes through Tripoli, he witnesses the horrors of people trafficking as so many risk everything to get to Europe. After passing through struggling Tunisia, he heads to Sicily where he meets three brilliant sisters who are taking on the Mafia to keep their land. Rating: *****
