The Woman in White, 9pm, BBC1
We all love a classy period adaptation and this gripping new version of Wilkie Collins’ spine-chilling novel is an absolute treat [cast who’s who]. The engrossing mystery sees ex-EastEnders star Ben Hardy take centre stage as artist Walter Hartright, whose moonlit meeting on a London heath with a distressed woman dressed in white changes his life for ever. As he takes a job in Cumberland teaching painting to forthright Marian Halcombe (a brilliant turn from Jessie Buckley) and her sister Laura Fairlie (Olivia Vinall), he finds both romance and heartache in abundance. How are his new pupils linked to the woman in white and why does she spell danger for them all? Rating: *****
Good Karma Hospital, 9pm, ITV
Love is in the air for Dr Ram and his fiancée Mala as the second series of The Good Karma Hospital signs off with a spectacular wedding – yet their colourful nuptials are just one of many treats in store during this week’s finale. Elsewhere, the story of a persecuted fisherman leads Ruby and Gabriel finally to be open with each other, and we are given a further glimpse into Lydia’s past when she’s contacted by an old friend, Dr Virginia Mileham (a nice guest role for the wonderful Sue Johnston). It’s the end of a delightful journey, but hopefully we will all be returning to beautiful Barco very soon. Rating: *****
Little Big Shots, 7pm, ITV
TV talent shows are often filled with fame-hungry contestants and pantomime judges, so we’re very pleased to see this feel-good family show return for a second series. Comedy icon Dawn French is the perfect host for the fun-filled format and she’s bowled over by a new batch of talented children, from Britain and further afield, who have some remarkable acts to share. Highlights of this week’s opener include a pair of Russian acrobats, a wonderful seven-year-old drummer, a trio of Filipino singers and an adorable four-year-old mini guardsman from Slough. Rating: ****
