Bodyguard, 9pm, BBC1
Sgt David Budd and Home Secretary Julia Montague grow even closer in the wake of last week’s terror attack, but under pressure from Police Commander Anne Sampson (a no-nonsense Gina McKee) David begins spying on the powerful politician tonight. David doesn’t yet know who to trust – and we certainly know how he feels! With the identity of the gunman continuing to elude the police, the politician’s heroic PPO is not yet under suspicion himself, but there’ll be some tricky questions to answer once the late Andy Apsted is unmasked. Vanity Fair, 9pm, ITV
‘Welcome to Vanity Fair!’ announces Michael Palin, resplendent as ‘ringmaster’ William Thackeray in front of a carousel. ‘A vain, wicked, foolish place…where everyone is striving for that which is not worth having.’ It’s a striking introduction to this seven-part adaptation. Becky Sharp, a ruthless but likeable school mistress, is desperate to claw her way out of the bottom of society. And when she loses her job, her mind goes into overdrive… Rising star Olivia Cooke leads a stellar cast that also includes Suranne Jones, Martin Clunes and Claire Skinner, for a sumptuous and surprising treat, with episode two airing tomorrow at 9pm. Don’t miss! Rating: *****

David is the What To Watch Editor and has over 20 years of experience in television journalism. He is currently writing about the latest television and film news for What To Watch.
Before working for What To Watch, David spent many years working for TV Times magazine, interviewing some of television's most famous stars including Hollywood actor Kiefer Sutherland, singer Lionel Richie and wildlife legend Sir David Attenborough.
David started out as a writer for TV Times before becoming the title's deputy features editor and then features editor. During his time on TV Times, David also helped run the annual TV Times Awards. David is a huge Death in Paradise fan, although he's still failed to solve a case before the show's detective! He also loves James Bond and controversially thinks that Timothy Dalton was an excellent 007.
Other than watching and writing about telly, David loves playing cricket, going to the cinema, trying to improve his tennis and chasing about after his kids!
