The Supervet at Christmas, 8pm, C4
It may be the season for comfort and joy but it’s a challenging time for Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick as three special dogs and their owners desperately need him to bring them some festive cheer. Rescue dog Tatiana has been saved from neglect in Romania, but the one-year-old crossbreed is facing an uphill battle with complex surgery and it’s not certain whether she will ever walk normally again. Dalmatian Peppa has a history of health issues, and Noel struggles to find a solution to her multiple problems. Finally, a family travel from Switzerland with their Labrador Luna, who is struggling to walk. All they want for Christmas is a pain-free pet. Can Noel make their festive wish come true? Rating: ****
Fortitude, 9pm, Sky Atlantic
The dark and highly original series about nightmarish goings-on in a remote Arctic settlement returns for a final four episodes. The standout in a stellar cast has been Game of Thrones star Richard Dormer as sheriff Dan Anderssen who, after being infected by larvae from a thawed-out mammoth carcass, turned from good shepherd into big bad wolf. As we rejoin the action, widowed fisherman Michael Lennox (Dennis Quaid) is hitting the bottle again, and there’s no let-up in the weirdness thanks to some new arrivals, one of whom has an unusual anti-ageing regime… This is not for the faint-hearted, but if you missed them, it’s worth catching up on the first two series. Rating: *****
Gino’s Italian Coastal Escape, 8.30pm (not Wales), ITV
Gino’s journey down the stunning Adriatic coast of Italy continues in the Itria Valley, which he describes as a food lovers’ paradise. Gino visits a masseria, or an ancient farmhouse, which has been converted into a gorgeous hotel. He picks figs, samples the olive oil from some of the 2,000 olive trees they have and then cooks a classic pasta dish with just five ingredients – garlic, chilli, parsley, spaghetti and olive oil. The area is also famous for its white-washed towns, none more so than the city of Ostuni, which rises up gloriously out of the olive groves. After helping a couple of old gents paint the city walls, Gino makes them a decadent tiramisu. Rating *****
