Good news for fans of ITV’s series about intrepid female World War Two codebreakers – this four-part spinoff captures the spirit of the original and has already been commissioned for another run. In the first instalment of a two-part story, Jean (Julie Graham) is now a librarian, minding her own business until Millie (Rachael Stirling), who is now a governess, spots a newspaper article about a woman’s murder in San Francisco. They recognise the killer’s MO and fear this could be the man who murdered their friend Claire. Determined to get justice, and bored of their mundane post-War lives, they make the journey to America to do some digging… Rating: ****
Who Do You Think You Are?, 9pm, BBC1
Boy George has always been one of music’s most colourful stars, but this deeply moving investigation of his family tree gets to the heart of what really makes him tick. George has always been fascinated by his Irish ancestry and is profoundly affected after visiting Dublin, where he learns the story of his great-aunt Annie, whose republican husband Thomas Bryan was executed by the British Army. No less tragic is the tale of George’s grandmother Bridget, who, aged six, was taken away from her struggling family. Despite the sad nature of his discoveries, George’s humour is in evidence throughout – as well as his dulcet tones when he joins in with an Irish anthem in a pub. Rating: ****
Picnic At Hanging Rock, 9pm, BBC2
Last week’s shocking discovery only deepens the mystery of the girls’ strange disappearance – as if this eerie drama wasn’t baffling enough! Tonight, a flashback to London six years previously reveals more of what teacher Hester Appleyard (Natalie Dormer) has been through. Meanwhile, rumours are spreading. Could the key to all this lie behind the college gates? Rating: ***
