TV Times picks for tonight
What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight three of the best shows on telly tonight for Thursday 2nd November
Harry Styles at the BBC, 8.00pm, BBC1
Following one-off specials with Adele and Michael Bublé, the Beeb is treating viewers to an exclusive hour with the one and only Harry Styles – scream! Filmed in front of a live studio audience in Manchester, the show features performances of tracks from his debut solo album, including favourites Sign of the Times and Carolina, as well as a few surprise cover songs. Harry also chats to his good pal, Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw, about his early X Factor days, One Direction fame and his new acting career. Fans won’t want to miss hilarious clips of Harry and Nick escaping the limelight to visit a local chippy and play some bingo. Rating: ****
Ross Kemp Behind Bars, 9.00pm, ITV
A documentary promising to lift the lid on prison life hardly counts as groundbreaking TV, yet Ross Kemp battles manfully to find a new angle in this film about infamous Scottish jail HMP Barlinnie. The former soap star wants to know if the British prison system is working well and is soon able to provide a predictable answer to that question, yet the strongest moments arrive when inmates and prison officers share their stories. Prepare for some eye-watering tales of violence, a distressing chat with a sex offender and some ingenious methods of smuggling drugs past the guards. Rating: ***
Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs, 8.30pm ITV
Canine-loving Paul normally charms even the most troubled of pups but he has his work cut out this week when he encounters gorgeous but tetchy nine-week-old Yorkie cross Tyke. The youngster, who was taken away from his mum too early, certainly lives up to his name as he has an unfortunate tendency to nip – Paul even has to wear gloves! Elsewhere, hearts will go out to lonely Staffie Milo, who was found confused and lost on streets and hates kennel life, while lovely senior citizen Labradors Lucky and Lucy, who are inseparable life-long companions, are in need of a home together and lots of TLC, especially as Lucky has some worrying lumps that need checking out… Rating: *****
