The celebrity gymnasts had tumbled, twisted and turned - on the ground and in the air. Now, in the Grand Final, they all had to perform a floor and trapeze routine and the dreaded vault.
That was especially hard to do for actor Bobby Lockwood, who was carrying a knee injury. But he was the bookies favourite to win - and he did.
It was Ian "H" Watkins who scored the perfect 40/40 with judges Nadia Comaneci, Louis Smith, Sebastien Stella and Craig Heap for his spectacular floor and trapeze routine - but it was Bobby who was the public’s favourite, even though his busted knee meant his routines were severely restricted.
“There was a chance that I wouldn’t be able to perform at all,” Bobby revealed, before he took to the floor. “We can’t do what we planned but we can do something.”
Clearly, his injury didn’t matter. Even Nadia said after his routine: “We know you can tumble and on the trapeze you were amazing.”
Louis agreed. “Gymnastics is hard sport. You have to push through and Bobby showed that tonight. Despite the lack of difficulty your routine was unbelievable.”
The judges’ votes put “H” in first place, with singer Sarah Harding and boxer Carl Froch tied in second place on 38 points. Singer Amelle Berrabah was half a point ahead of The Only Way Is Essex star Lucy Mecklenburgh, with 35.5 points. That left Bobby trailing last, with 33.5 points from the judges.
So no wonder Bobby and pro partner Kristen looked so surprised when presenter Alex Jones announced that he was the winner. Ah, the power of the voting public…
