Inspector George Gently, 8.30pm, BBC1
With only a couple of weeks to go before he retires, Gently is far from demob happy and is haunted by thoughts of his late wife. But his fighting spirit is roused when a special investigations unit asks him to reinvestigate the death of young woman from four years earlier. His enquiry brings him into contact with MP Michael Clements (Poldark’s Richard Harrington), but is there a connection to a murder on a picket line that Bacchus and Rachel are investigating? As Gently’s final case turns into the most personal of his career, this last-ever episode is a fitting swansong to a compelling drama – we just hope Bacchus and Gently can resolve their differences before they say goodbye… Rating: *****
Nigella: At My Table, 8.30pm, BBC2
Nigella Lawson is back with a brand new series promising easy recipes because ‘life can be complicated but cooking doesn’t have to be.’ Sounds good to us! She’s got it all covered, from delicious breakfast dishes to irresistible late-night munchies, kicking off with a Turkish take on eggs Benedict. Next up, a real crowd-pleaser – chicken and pea tray bake with lashings of garlic and vermouth. ‘Nigel Slater’s named me the queen of the frozen pea!’ she quips as she turns her attention to a sponge and meringue dessert. It’s good to know that even Nigella has a junk cupboard, too, out of which she pulls a spiralizer with which to make a crispy snack! HHHH MC
Tenable, 3.00pm, ITV
Warwick Davis returns for a second series of this fun game show offering cash prizes to a team of five if they can fill in the blanks of several wildly differing top ten lists. Getting proceedings under way, York team ‘Never Mind the Pollocks’ tackles lists including ‘the top 10 favourite smells in the UK’ and ‘the top 10 outfield players at the 1966 World Cup Final’ as they bid for a potential jackpot of £125,000.
