What’s On TV Tonight? Our Pick Of The Best Shows: Saturday 21st October
Top picks tonight
What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight three of the best shows on telly tonight for Saturday 21st October
Casualty, 8.20, BBC1
Who can blame Lily for feeling jealous? Iain and Sam have been flirting outrageously since they started working together again, and if there’s one thing Dr Chao is rubbish at, it’s banter. Tonight, she tries to bury her feelings, and even turns down an exciting research post to spend more time with Iain – but will she live to regret it? Meanwhile, Louise is on to Dylan about Sanosi, and David puts pressure on him to come clean. The worst is to come when Connie grows suspicious, too. Rating: ****
Gunpowder, 9.10pm, BBC1
How much do you know about the Gunpowder Plot – other than it involving the Houses of Parliament, a man called Guy Fawkes and, erm, gunpowder? Well, you’ll be an expert by the time this breathtaking three-part drama ends. It tells the story of a country caught in a Catholic-Protestant divide, stewing in an atmosphere that breeds resentment and rebellion… The cast is absolutely stellar, with Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington, who plays his real-life ancestor, plotter Robert Catesby, Hollywood star Liv Tyler and Mark Gatiss. You might need to watch some scenes from behind a cushion, but this tense slice of history is not to be missed. Rating: ****
Strictly Come Dancing, 6.35pm, BBC1
After dragging Ed Balls around the dance floor last year, and giving the nation the gift of Gangnam Style, professional dancer Katya Jones must be delighted to be in the arms of Holby City star Joe McFadden this series. We’ve been watching closely and the man definitely has moves! Consistently occupying the top half of the leaderboard, and improving every week, we reckon these two are in it for the long haul… Everyone will be hoping to dazzle the judges tonight in a bid to make it through to Strictly’s Halloween spooktacular next week. But who will be sent home? Rating: *****
