Best TV shows on TV tonight
Not Going Out season 13, 9 pm, BBC One
Following recent TV appearances as a quiz-show host in the Inside No 9 episode 3 by 3, and as the real quiz-show host of ITV1’s The 1% Club, Lee Mack is back tonight as his sitcom alter ego.
In this opening episode of the new series, he’s faced with a dilemma, as he suspects bezzie mate Toby (Hugh Dennis) is being cheated on by Anna (Abigail Cruttenden) when she asks Lee and wife Lucy (Sally Bretton) to lie for her. It turns out Sitcom-Lee possesses none of Actual-Lee’s dexterous fibbing skills from Would I Lie to You?. So, feeling the pressure, he goes in search of evidence of Anna’s affair… It’s good to have this long-running comedy back.

Queen of Oz, 9:30 pm, BBC One

Queen Georgiana (Catherine Tate) doesn’t seem to be warming to Australia, but then neither is Australia warming to its queen. The latest reason for her to hit the headlines is that she hates her picture on the new five-dollar note and demands the currency be withdrawn, despite the notes having already been distributed to banks.
Can she get media tycoon Richard Steele (David Roberts) on her side over dinner? After being advised to pretend to share his love of hunting, she pretends a bit too hard and finds herself invited to a ‘roo hunt’ at the weekend…

Glastonbury, from 7:30 pm, BBC Two
Festival-goers will have started arriving from Wednesday onwards, but today is the day when Glastonbury really gets going. With extensive BBC coverage over the weekend, plus on iPlayer and online, it’s never an exaggeration to say there’s something for everyone.
Tonight’s headliners are Arctic Monkeys, but you can also see Texas, Sparks, Steve Earle, Royal Blood and Carly Rae Jepsen. Other highlights over the weekend include Guns N’ Roses, Lizzo and Lewis Capaldi (Saturday) and Elton John, Blondie, Will Young and Becky Hill (Sunday).

Sister Boniface Mysteries season 2, 9 pm, UKTV
Maggie Steed turns up in tonight’s episode of the period murder-mystery series as Sister Boniface’s mum Vivienne, who makes a surprise visit to see her daughter along with her husband, Malise (Geoffrey McGivern). The reason for their arrival soon becomes clear when Malise persuades Sister Boniface (Lorna Watson) to brush off her chess skills and enter a tournament.
But when one of the competitors is found dead after being injected with an unknown substance, Sister Boniface fears Cold War espionage. Can she crack the case before more lives are lost?

Best box set on TV tonight
Black Mirror season 6, Netflix
It’s four years since we last saw Charlie Brooker’s tech-based anthology series – and now it’s back for series six. There’s a great cast, with Aaron Paul and Josh Hartnett starring in an episode called Beyond the Sea set in 1969 about two men on a hi-tech mission, while British stars John Hannah and Monica Dolan’s story sees them in a Scottish town with dark secrets. Other stars include Industry’s Myha’la Herrold, plus Paapa Essiedu, Annie Murphy and Salma Hayek Pinault.

Best film on TV tonight
Don't Worry Darling, 8 pm, Sky Premiere
The spirit of The Stepford Wives hangs over this Tupperware-coloured 2022 drama starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles as a couple leading a rosy life in a suburban 1950s America so perfect that something’s got to be wrong, right?
Gemma Chan, Olivia Wilde (who also directs) and Chris Pine round out the cast list of a film that almost sank before it had debuted, thanks to backstage (and back-stabbing) scuttlebutt and the Twittersphere’s verdict on Styles’ acting – he’s fine, though the accent wobbles a bit. Verdict: a cool, nicely done midweight shocker with lovers of The Handmaid’s Tale in its sights.
