Beyond Paradise, 8 pm, BBC One
There’s a fire-starter - a twisted fire-starter, you might even say - on the loose in Shipton Abbott this week, as three buildings go up in flames. Curiously, the first target involves straw, the second sticks and the third one bricks - which makes Humphrey (Kris Marshall) wonder if the arsonist is emulating the Big Bad Wolf! To make matters more complicated, the detective inspector has
to question Archie (Jamie Bamber) - business partner of Humphrey’s fiancée Martha (Sally Bretton) - as part of the investigation, and a big secret spills out as a result. This show is really hitting its stride, with an absolutely devastating final scene that will leave you on tenterhooks for next week’s finale…

DI Colette Cunningham (Paula Malcomson) has certainly managed to annoy a lot of people since upping sticks from Liverpool. Her granddaughter Cara barely tolerates her, while her boss Jane (Siobhán McSweeney) is still smarting from having to surrender most of her budget to Colette’s transfer to the Dublin Garda. And if Colette continues keeping tabs on her daughter Stacey’s shady ex, Eoin (Moe Dunford), he’s going to be really annoyed. At least she’s formed a bond with her colleagues Siobhán and Patrick, but will she ever trust them enough to confide in either of them about her illicit investigation into Stacey’s death?

Late Night Lycett, 10 pm, Channel 4
Friday nights are about to get lively! Following the success of his Big Pride Party last summer, comedian Joe is back on C4 with a new entertainment series, broadcasting live from Birmingham. At the time of going to press, tonight’s guest stars were strictly under wraps, but in our interview with Joe, he reveals each hour-long outing will feature celebrities, comedians, Brummie locals, LGBTQ+ heroes and allies, musicians and, of course, his trademark stunts, which have a tendency to go viral… Basically, expect the unexpected. (And fingers crossed Liz Truss and David Beckham are on the guest list!)

The Cleaner, 9.30 pm, BBC One, iPlayer (box set)
After Helena Bonham Carter’s murderous widow in series one, the pressure is on for this second series of Greg Davies’ forensic sitcom to pack the same star power. Along comes acting legend Simon Callow as a whimsical theatre manager who calls upon Davies’ crime-scene cleaner Wicky to clear up the mess when a strip show gets out of hand. A blood-splattered auditorium is the least of Wicky’s problems, though, when a clash with an egotistical clown results in a nightmare day at work… Boasting humour and pathos, this is another sparkling episode.

What would happen to the patriarchy if teenage girls suddenly developed the ability to electrocute people at will? That’s the intriguing premise of The Power, a new nine-part sci-fi series based on the prize-winning, best-selling novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman. The dystopian tale, which globe-trots between destinations including the US, UK, Nigeria and Moldova, stars Toni Collette as Margot Cleary-Lopez, the Mayor of Seattle, John Leguizamo as her husband, Rob, and Moana’s Auli’i Cravalho as their newly empowered daughter, Jos. The series begins with three episodes, before dropping weekly.

New political thriller The Night Agent follows a low-level FBI agent who works nights in the basement of the White House manning a phone line for undercover spies that never rings. But one day, it does, setting into motion a chain of events that uncovers a conspiracy that reaches all the way to the Oval Office.
Gabriel Basso leads the cast as agent Peter Sutherland, who soon crosses paths with a terrified civilian named Rose Larkin, who he has to protect throughout the series. This is the perfect binge watch for for fans of twisty thrillers!

Taron Egerton battles the KGB in this 1980s-set true story of the high-stakes legal battle to secure the intellectual property rights to iconic video game Tetris. The Rocketman actor stars as moustachioed Henk Rogers, an entrepreneur determined to distribute the game worldwide with the help of Alexey Pajitnov (Nikita Efremov), the engineer who invented it.
