Death in Paradise Christmas Special 2022, 9pm, BBC One
Is something supernatural going on in Saint Marie? True-crime podcaster Jennifer Langan (Derry Girls’ Siobhán McSweeney) meets her end while investigating a cold case, and a confusing recording of her final moments suggests her killer is the ghost of a nine-year-old boy! Neville (Ralf Little) refuses to believe it, but working out what happened is tricky — and slippery psychic Danny Sheridan (Les Dennis) is refusing to reveal what he knows. Expect goosebumps from this seasonal special, which also features Neville meeting a potential new love interest…

The Voice Kids Christmas Special 2022, 8.30pm, ITV1
Santa is serving up a treat this Christmas as pop legend-turned-broadcaster Ronan Keating joins will.iam, Pixie Lott and Danny Jones in those famous big red chairs as the hunt returns for the next pint-sized pop star. Emma Willis hosts the series, which will once again air as a three-part Yuletide extravaganza, as youngsters aged between the ages of seven and 14 sing their hearts out in a bid to get the coaches’ heads – and chairs – turning. The banter is always lively between regular coaches will.i.am, Danny and Pixie, and Ronan, with his Irish charm, fits right in. Now let’s bring on the talent! Continues until Wednesday.

The Repair Shop at Christmas, 8pm, BBC One
Jay Blades and the team work their Christmas magic restoring some treasured festive items. Electronics expert Mark Stuckey is given a 1960s cinefilm projector containing old footage which a pair of siblings are desperate to see following the death of their sister. There’s also a kitsch home bar and a 1920s Christmas tree.

Detectorists Christmas Special 2022, 9pm, BBC Two
Five years after the last series ended, Mackenzie Crook’s gentle, beautifully written comedy returns for a special. Once again, detectorists Andy (Crook) and Lance (Toby Jones) are scouring the countryside looking for long-lost treasures. This time, they and other members of the Danebury Metal Detecting Club really need to unearth a valuable relic to prevent their beloved meeting place from being torn down by developers. But when Lance does find something, he keeps it to himself, threatening his friendship with Andy. The two stars give lovely understated performances in an endearing, sharply observed comedy.

Tiffany and Leon are flatmates, but there's nothing conventional about their living arrangements. Despite sharing the same place, they've never actually met with Tiffany having the flat from 8 pm - 8 am, and Leon having it from 8 am - 8 pm. Over time the pair learn more about each other through post-it notes and start to develop an attraction to one another, even though they've never had an in-person conversation.
Jessica Brown Findlay and Anthony Welsh are excellent in the leading roles and with all six episodes now available on Paramount Plus, it's the perfect show for binge-watching. But will Tiffany and Leon actually become an item? You'll have to watch and find out!

Best film on TV tonight
The Mitchells vs the Machines, 3.30pm, ITV1
Ears pinned back and eyes peeled for an insanely busy animated comedy about a family driving across the US, pursued by killer robots. The computer overlord co-ordinating the mayhem is called PAL (a nod to HAL in 2001: A Space Odyssey) and is voiced by Olivia Colman, which gives some idea where the humour is coming from. There are smart jokes for tech-savvy kids, dumb-as-toast stuff for their parents and even a serious point in there somewhere — that when the machines decide to come and get us they won’t look like the Terminator. It’s your fridge you need to keep an eye on.

Claire is Assistant Managing Editor at What To Watch and has been a journalist for over 15 years, writing about everything from soaps and TV to beauty, entertainment, and even the Royal Family. After starting her career at a soap magazine, she ended up staying for 13 years, and over that time she’s pulled pints in the Rovers Return, sung karaoke in the Emmerdale village hall, taken a stroll around Albert Square, and visited Summer Bay Surf Club in sunny Australia.
After learning some tricks of the trade at websites Digital Spy, Entertainment Daily, and Woman & Home, Claire landed a role at What’s On TV and whattowatch.com writing about all things TV and film, with a particular love for Aussie soaps, Strictly Come Dancing and Bake Off.
She’s interviewed everyone from June Brown — AKA Dot Cotton — to Michelle Keegan, swapped cooking tips with baking legend Mary Berry backstage at the NTAs, and danced the night away with soap stars at countless awards bashes. There’s not a lot she doesn’t know about soaps and TV and can be very handy when a soapy question comes up in a pub quiz!
As well as all things soap-related, Claire also loves running, spa breaks, days out with her kids, and getting lost in a good book.
