Springwatch 2023, 8:30 pm, BBC Two

Live nature cams at the ready! Spring nights are about to get a whole lot more exciting for wildlife lovers, as Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan return for a brand-new three-week Springwatch series, with all the action filmed from a new home, RSPB Arne in Dorset.

The site has all six of the UK’s native reptiles, including sand lizards, slow worms and smooth snakes, so plenty for the cameras to capture! Meanwhile, Mindfulness Moments makes a return, and Iolo Williams and Gillian Burke bring some exciting nature stories from Purbeck Heaths and North Wales respectively. Glorious spring telly! Continues weekdays.

Steeltown Murders, 9 pm, BBC One

DCI Paul Bethell and his team have been poring over the old investigation into the 1973 Llandarcy murders for months, but they still have nothing to show for their efforts. So when top brass threaten to shut their investigation down, there’s much soul-searching as they’re faced with the prospect of letting the killer slip through their fingers again after all these decades.

In a final throw of the dice, Bethell widens the DNA search to include possible family members of the killer, and that’s what brings Joseph Kappen – played with brooding malevolence by Aneurin Barnard – to their attention.

University Challenge, 8:30 pm, BBC Two

After 37 weeks of interrogation, it’s the grand final of the quiz, with two teams battling it out to take the crown from Imperial College London and become the next champions. But most of all, this is the swansong of host Jeremy Paxman, who has been at the helm since 1994. We will miss his demands of ‘Let’s have it, please!’

Succession, 9 pm, Sky Atlantic

After three multi-award winning seasons, the fourth and final instalment of Succession was the most-hyped show of 2023, yet the Roy clan have surpassed all our expectations. The series’ British creator Jesse Armstrong has written the final three episodes and, following the chaos of election night and last week’s funeral, tonight’s finale promises to be a TV moment to remember.

With Shiv (Sarah Snook) and GoJo owner Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) striking a deal to take over Waystar, Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) have a fight on their hands, but who will succeed? Expect plenty of f-bombs and backstabbings before the final credits roll.
