Best TV shows on TV tonight
The Pact season 2, 9 pm, BBC One, BBC iPlayer (box set)
Weddings in TV dramas rarely go to plan and things certainly get out of hand at Megan’s (Mali Ann Rees) big day tonight when Connor (Jordan Wilks) suddenly arrives unannounced and starts threatening to expose all of Christine’s lies. After breaking into her office and finding a smoking USB stick of evidence, Connor believes he’s in the driving seat, but his victory doesn’t last long. Back in the first episode of the series, Christine (Rakie Ayola) warned him not to cross her and we begin to find out exactly what she meant as things take a sinister twist that ratchets the drama up several gears. ★★★★★ SMA
Royal Mob, 9 pm, Sky History, NOW (box set)
The return of The Crown is not the only fascinating look at regal intrigue this week, as the turbulence of the late 19th and early 20th centuries is explored in a revealing docudrama that places the spotlight on Victoria, Ella, Alix and Irene, the spirited Hesse sisters who were the granddaughters of Queen Victoria (played by Some Mothers Do ’Ave ’Em’s Michele Dotrice). Each of the young women eventually marries into the interconnected houses of Europe — with a mixed reaction from their domineering grandmother, who dubbed her clan the ‘royal mob’ — but the seeds of World War One are being sown, which will test family loyalties... ★★★★ CC

With the checking-in drama behind them, the guests are starting to relax and enjoy their vacation. Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) wants to live out her dream of being Italian actress Monica Vitti, and gets husband Greg to hire a Vespa so she can sit on the back with a chiffon scarf trailing behind her. Meanwhile, Harper (Aubrey Plaza) continues to seethe at idle rich companions Cameron (Theo James) and Daphne (Meghann Fahy), while lonely Portia (Haley Lu Richardson) joins the Di Grassos on their boys’ trip… ★★★★ SP
Made in the 80s: How Britain Shaped Our World, 10 pm, Channel 4, All4 (box set)
Following politics and culture, the final episode of this series focuses on the tech revolution. The industrial decline in Margaret Thatcher’s Britain saw coal being replaced with computers. Now it was the microprocessor that held the key to the future. Clive Sinclair and Acorn Computers emerged as the first UK start-ups. Britain’s youth needed a distraction from social unrest and found it in a new genre of music: electro pop. Meanwhile, budding entrepreneurs programmed video games on home PCs and UK computer scientists developed the first piece in the puzzle for the world wide web… ★★★ MC
Best box set to watch on TV tonight
SAS Rogue Heroes, BBC iPlayer
After his searing gangster saga came to an end after six series, Peaky Blinders creator Stephen Knight started looking for a new project and has found a cracker in this wartime drama about the creation of the Hereford-based Special Air Service – SAS. Another tale packed with mavericks, rule-breakers and antiheroes, this six-parter follows three British soldiers who terrorised Hitler’s forces in the deserts of North Africa, with Alfie Allen, Connor Swindells and Jack O’Connell having a ball in the lead roles. The result is a rollicking tale that feels like a cross between Band of Brothers and Knight’s previous hit series, so buckle up! (Also airing Sundays at 9 pm on BBC One) ★★★★★ SMA
Best film on TV tonight
The Favourite, 9 pm, Film4
Filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos creates a sublime, off-kilter period drama, very loosely based on real history. It tells of the incredible sway Sarah Churchill, the Duchess of Marlborough (Rachel Weisz), had over Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) and her court in the early 1700s. But then Anne switches favour to Sarah’s impoverished cousin Abigail (Emma Stone)… It’s a glorious, often hilarious tale packed with the rude and the ribald, but also capable of pathos, elevated to brilliance by a rapier script and actors who are nothing short of astonishing. ★★★★★ NP
