Best TV shows on TV tonight

Strictly Come Dancing, 6:50pm, BBC One

Arguably one of our favourite shows in the Strictly calendar has arrived, so get ready for some terrifying tangos, petrifying paso dobles and quivering quick-steps... it’s the Halloween special. It’s safe to say that SCD hair, make-up and wardrobe teams always pull out all the stops for this spellbinding spectacle.

In the past we’ve had Steps’ Faye Tozer as a sexy skeleton, Loose Women’s Frankie Bridge going green as Wicked’s Elphaba and Countryfile’s Anita Rani - and some serious spook-tacular horns - appearing as Maleficent. We cannot wait to see what devilish delights await us in tonight’s show! ★★★★ VW

Leonard Rossiter: Comedy Great, 8.35pm, Channel 5

A look back at the life of actor Leonard Rossiter, best-known for his roles in 1970s sitcoms The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin and Rising Damp. A notorious perfectionist and private man, he’s remembered here also for lesser-known film and stage roles, and this film chats with his co-stars, including Coronation Streets Sue Nicholls and Death in Paradise’s Don Warrington, who talk of his kindness but also his precise and serious nature.

It also features a previously unseen and rare interview of Leonard chatting about his work, plus a look back at the iconic Cinzano drinks advert with none other than Joan Collins. ★★★★ JL

Ed Sheeran at the BBC, 8.35pm, BBC Two

A new compilation of performances from the English singer-songwriter who has become one of the world’s best-selling artists, as well as one of the most streamed. Later, at 10.25pm you can see Ed Sheeran at Glastonbury 2017, in a Pyramid Stage set which included his hits Thinking Out Loud, Sing, Shape of You and Castle on the Hill. ★★★ JP

The Voice UK Final, 8pm, ITV

The Voice UK coaches group

Once again, The Voice UK has given us laughter, emotion, and great singing... and that’s just from our coaches Sir Tom Jones, will-i.am, Olly Murs and Anne-Marie! Of course, it’s also given us lots of great talent. After the exciting blind auditions and the stripped back Call Backs round (bye bye Battles!), followed by last weekend’s semi-final, each coach has one powerhouse performer left as the stage is set for the grand final.

We’ve loved having the studio audience back and now they have an important role to play in this pre-recorded show, as they’re the ones who’ll vote for the winner. Who will follow in the footsteps of last year’s winner Craig Eddie and win The Voice UK 2022? ★★★ VW

Best box set to watch on TV tonight

Gangs of London Season 2, Sky TV

In the second season of this hard-hitting crime drama, we pick up the action one year later to find all is not well with undercover cop Eliot Finch (Sope Dirisu), now working as an assassin for "the investors". Back in London, Alex Dumani (The Capture’s Paapa Essiedu) is heading up Dumani Finance, while his sister Shannon (Pippa Bennett-Warner), who grew close to Eliot, is still in jail.

And as we are introduced to a new Algerian gang, it transpires that someone is selling guns without the permission of the people who run the underworld. Waleed Zuaiter joins the cast as the terrifying enforcer Koba. The action scenes are violent but brilliantly choreographed.

Best film on TV tonight

Halloween, 11.35pm, Channel 4

Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween

It seems fitting, if slightly astonishing, that the total number of films in the Halloween franchise is thirteen, with the very-final-sounding Halloween Ends released earlier this month. But horror aficionados will tell you that none of the sequels come close to this 1978 original (2018’s Halloween, available to watch on BBC iPlayer, is by far the best of the rest).

Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasance star in John Carpenter’s groundbreaking low-budget horror which went on to become one of the most successful independent films of all time. ★★★★★ JP

Live Sport

  • Premier League: Leicester City vs Manchester City, 11.30 am, BT Sport 1
  • Live Men's Rugby League World Cup: Fiji v Scotland (Kick-off 5.00 pm), BBC Two
