Best TV shows on TV tonight
The Woman in the Wall, 9.05 pm, BBC One
This dark, tangled thriller sees Ruth Wilson give a typically electrifying performance as troubled but spirited Irishwoman Lorna Brady, who, when she was a teenager, was sent to one of the controversial Magdalene Laundries. While she is now trying to rebuild her life, she remains deeply scarred by her horrifying history, which also saw her baby daughter taken from her. But her world is rocked even more when she finds a strange woman’s body in her home, while Detective Colman Akande (Bad Sisters’ Daryl McCormack) is carrying out an investigation of his own into another murder and needs to interview Lorna… Continues tomorrow.

Midsomer Murders, 8 pm, ITV1
Psychics, witches and a tarot-card reader are among tonight’s unusual suspects. DCI John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) and DS Jamie Winter (Nick Hendrix) investigate the murder of a young woman whose body is found surrounded by symbolic artefacts (including a tarot card) and who was stabbed to death with a crystal wand. Helpfully, since it’s the time of year for the annual Psychic Fayre at Eddon Hall in the village of Angel’s Rise, the suspects can all be found in one place. They include psychic medium Gerard King (Colin Salmon), tarot card reader Simeon Dagley (Richard David-Caine) and empaths – or self-proclaimed witches – Sally Ann Barker (Tracy-Ann Oberman) and Rachel Finn (Sarah Paul).
