The Gold, 9 pm, BBC One, iPlayer (box set)
The Brink’s-Mat robbery in 1983, which saw six armed men nab £26 million in gold bullion, is one of the most infamous heists in history. But its consequences are far less well-known, and now, this star-studded and fabulously intriguing drama takes a deep dive into the theft from the perspective of both the thieves and the police. Hugh Bonneville heads the cast as wonderfully straight-down-the-line detective Brian Boyce, who is hell-bent on finding the gang and the loot, but events soon spiral out of control for the thieves, including their fence Kenneth Noye (Jack Lowden), as their haul becomes too hot to handle… ★★★★★ CC
Call the Midwife, 8 pm, BBC One
The plight of the homeless is brought movingly into the spotlight as Nancy – whose confidence and compassion grow by the week – helps a young couple who are expecting their second baby and find themselves with nowhere to live. The case also leads Matthew (Olly Rix) and Trixie (Helen George) to investigate what can be done to improve the dire housing situation, and Cyril volunteers at a shelter where a troubled young man comes to his attention. Meanwhile, Dr Turner deals with a hepatitis outbreak, and Shelagh supports a worried older mum- to-be. But there’s also joy in store from a local family photo contest. ★★★★ CC

He watches epic battles between triceratops and the mighty T-Rex, learns from experts how these creatures lived and died, and discovers their tender sides as he witnesses them mating. Jurassic Park, eat your heart out! ★★★★ NH
Vera, 8 pm, ITV1
There are dramatic scenes kicking off tonight’s episode when a young police constable working a night shift gives chase to a suspect. However, the following morning, the body of the dedicated copper, PC Joel Kingston (Wolfe Miller), is found floating in the lake of a public park. DCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) discovers Joel is the son of fearsome retired police sergeant Phil Kingston (Matthew Marsh), who according to her is ‘a bit of a legend’. Tensions at work and brushes with the criminal underworld are gradually revealed as she and DS Aiden Healy (Kenny Doughty) investigate both sides of the thin blue line in order to find Joel’s killer. ★★★★ TL

Disney Plus is home to plenty of superhero stories, but Extraordinary couldn’t be more different from the typical Marvel project if it tried. In this new British comedy, we’re introduced to a version of Earth where everyone develops a superpower at the age of 18. Well, everyone except our 25-year-old protagonist, Jen (Máiréad Tyers). She’s left feeling (literally) powerless and is forced to look for a bit of hope in her everyday life. Extraordinary is fun, fresh, and feels very original.
