Best TV shows on TV tonight
Ten Pound Poms, 9 pm, BBC One/iPlayer (box set)
The 1950s proved a rich era for storytelling when Call the Midwife first hit our screens, and this six-part period piece also taps into the fragile hopes of those living in post-war Britain. Michelle Keegan, Faye Marsay and Warren Brown star as some of the Britons leaving rain and rationing behind for new lives in Australia, but they soon realise there are plenty of new challenges waiting for them Down Under. Brassic writer Danny Brocklehurst has never penned a period drama before, but this ambitious tale of prejudice and escapism shows he’s up to the job.

I Kissed A Boy, 9 pm, BBC Three
Dannii Minogue plays Cupid as she hosts the UK’s first gay dating show, which follows 10 single guys hoping to find their Mr Right. The boys have all been matched up, but when they first meet, they start off with a kiss to test their chemistry. As they then get to know one another, there are a few twists and turns along the way! It will inevitably be dubbed ‘the gay Love Island’, but there’s a sweeter, kinder and super-fun vibe to this show, with some thought-provoking moments, too, as the guys share their experiences of coming out, dating and body image. As Dannii says, it’s about time there was a show like this!

Malpractice, 9 pm, ITV1/ITVX (box set)
Lucinda (Niamh Algar) is stretched to her limits as her problems continue to mount in the penultimate episode of this superb thriller. While she tries to deal with the horrifying fallout from her daughter being rushed to hospital and the cracks in her marriage to husband Tom, she remains desperate to get to the bottom of the murky conspiracy she has become embroiled in, but will dodgy pharmacist Jubair play ball? Investigators Norma and George also put Lucinda through the mill again with more questions, but although Norma remains adamant that Lucinda has something to hide, is George wavering?

BAFTA TV Awards, 7 pm, BBC One
Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan will be scrubbing up and donning their black-tie attire as the new hosts of this year’s star-studded ceremony. Heading the nominations are BBC dramas The Responder and This Is Going to Hurt, both with nods in six categories. Meanwhile, Bad Sisters, The English, Slow Horses and The Crown have all received five. As always, we’re looking forward to gushing acceptance speeches and glamorous outfits while also checking out the best loser expressions as pesky cameras pan in on the fixed grins of nominees who didn’t win. Good luck, everyone. Let battle at the Royal Festival Hall begin!

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, Netflix
We’ve all fallen in love with the scurrilous court gossip of Bridgerton in recent years, and now we get a chance to find out how the colourful and competitive world of ‘the Ton’ came to be in this six-part spin-off. Set decades before the main drama, this prequel tells the story of the 17-year-old Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio) and her bittersweet romance with husband King George III (Corey Mylchreest). It’s an intimate glimpse into a lavish world and unmissable viewing for Bridgerton fans.

Best film on TV tonight
The War with Grandpa, 1.10 pm, Film4
The Deer Hunter fans will be stoked to see the reunion of Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken, albeit in a different kind of ‘war’ movie – one that involves a prank-based battle for occupation of the room of young Peter (Oakes Fegley) after Grandpa (De Niro) moves in. The one-upmanship reaches its rib-tickling peak with a youth versus experience dodgeball showdown. But don’t expect any curveballs in this mix of slapstick and (inevitable) sentimentality; it’s certainly more palatable, though, than De Niro’s (unrelated) Dirty Grandpa.
