Designing the Hebrides, 8 pm, BBC Two
Enthusiastic Australian design guru and winner of Interior Design Masters Banjo Beale lives in the Hebrides with his husband Ro, and this six-part makeover series follows him as he establishes his interior design business on the remote islands. First up, he is bringing his creative flair to his friend Sally’s fish shop, which is steeped in history. With the business very much a family affair after it was established by Sally’s grandfather in 1971, Banjo is feeling the pressure and starts to worry that cladding the shop inside and out with smoky black panelling may not be his best idea.

Race Across the World, 9 pm, BBC One
As the remaining teams approach the halfway point of the journey, the combination of losing one team to elimination last week and the pressure of reaching the next checkpoint – on the shores of Hudson Bay (only accessible by an infrequent train service) – is getting to them. Fatigue and money worries are also issues, but these teams are learning that it’s vital to find ways to somehow recharge their batteries along the route and temporarily find some much-needed peace and stillness. This they manage in different ways and, unsurprisingly, some become quite emotional. But the clock is ticking and they really do need to get on that train if they want to stay in the race…

Stacey Dooley: Ready for War?, 9 pm, BBC Three
Stacey brings home the reality of war in Ukraine in her latest documentary, in which she follows a group of Ukrainian civilians as they undergo combat training with the British Army to prepare for battle. But although the five-week course is intense, involving exercises focusing on trench warfare and hand-to-hand-combat, the film doesn’t focus on that. It’s really about the ordinary men—jewellers, florists and welders—who have no experience of war, but are willing to risk their lives on the frontline for their country. An emotional yet uplifting watch.

The Bay, 9 pm, ITV1/ITVX (box set)
While the Metcalf family wait for justice to be served following the fire in which mother-of-four Beth perished, there are tough choices facing the team as the investigation draws to a dramatic close. Jenn (Marsha Thomason) is desperate to find out who’s been targeting her family, but is under pressure to focus on the ongoing inquiry. Meanwhile, Tony, who has struggled to keep his home and work lives separate, is weighing up his future options, and Erin, the teenage daughter of Jenn’s partner Chris, is about to shock her family.

The Repair Shop, 8 pm, BBC One
It’s been a short but sweet run for the restoration series. And it finishes in typically moving style, with cobbler Dean Westmoreland carefully mending a pair of boots worn by a World War Two PoW. There is also the practical fixing of a microscope that belonged to a pioneering scientist for his great- grandson’s use as well as aesthetic work on a sculpture. Don’t be gone too long, Jay Blades and co.

Best box set on TV tonight
Beef is a new 10-part comedy series about two people who collide after a road rage incident. This causes Danny Cho (Steven Yeun), a failing contractor with a chip on his shoulder, to go head-to-head with Amy Lau (Ali Wong), a self-made entrepreneur with a picturesque life.
Danny and Amy find their lives affected by this seemingly everyday encounter. With a great supporting cast on board too, this "edgy, smart, revenge fable" should be perfect binge-watch material.

Hidden Figures, 6.30 pm, Film4
As the space race reaches fever pitch in the early 1960s, a trio of female African-American mathematicians attempt to overcome prejudice and find work with NASA. Their remarkable skills prove vital in getting an astronaut into orbit and bringing him safely back to Earth, but to realise their potential they must overcome deep-seated prejudice in the space programme and society as a whole. Fact-based drama, starring Taraji P Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monae and Kevin Costner.
