Best TV shows on TV tonight

The Change, from 10pm, Channel 4

This wonderful gem of a series, written by and starring comedian Bridget Christie, sees a menopausal mum deciding to reclaim her life. Linda (Christie) is not only battling menopause symptoms but she’s sick of being taken for granted by her self-centred husband Steve (Omid Djalili) and having an endless array of ‘invisible’ household chores.

After her 50th birthday and a lightbulb moment with her GP, she dusts off her beloved Triumph motorbike and roars back to her childhood roots in the New Forest. With a star-studded cast including Paul Whitehouse, Jerome Flynn, Liza Tarbuck and Monica Dolan, this is brilliantly observed, joyous and highly relatable!

It’s rare that a show genuinely makes you sob and laugh out loud in the same scene, but this beautifully performed comedy drama about a family’s hilarious, heartbreaking struggles to raise their learning disabled daughter always delivers.

As it returns for a one-off, Rosie (Miley Locke) is now 13 and hormones make her behaviour more challenging, leaving parents Emily (Jessica Hynes) and Simon (David Tennant) and brother Ben (Edan Hayhurst) at their wits’ end. Meanwhile, when answers finally arrive concerning Rosie’s condition, there are frank discussions about the future and the hand that life has dealt them.
