TV Times top picks for today
What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Tuesday 16th October
Informer, 9pm, BBC1
The excellent Paddy Considine stars as counter- terrorism officer Gabe Waters, who recruits young, second-generation Pakistani Raza Shar (Nabhaan Rizwan) to be his informant. Gabe and his partner Holly Morten (Bel Powley) need to find out if a terrorist mastermind has established a network of bombers in east London, and Raza is to be their eyes and ears in the community. Raza is coerced into the role and he must now lie to his family and friends, while Gabe has dark secrets of his own. This topical thriller is involving and gripping from the start, with newcomer Nabhaan an absolute natural. Rating: ****
Great British Bake Off, 8pm, C4
No pressure – there’s a third judge to impress this week: Sandi Toksvig! That’s because it’s the tent’s first ever Danish Week, and there’s nobody in Team GBBO better placed to give an opinion than Copenhagen-born Sandi. Delicious breads (Paul will be pleased!) and a showstopper paying homage to Danish pastries… but who will make it to next week’s semi-final? Rating: *****
Blue Peter: Big 60th Birthday, 5pm, CBBC
‘Here’s one I made earlier’ – 60 years earlier, to be precise. The world’s longest-running children’s TV show, which can do things with a couple of toilet rolls and some sticky-back plastic like no other show can, is 60 years old and celebrating with an hour-long live programme. The birthday extravaganza will welcome back former presenters, remember some classic moments and see current presenters Lindsey and Radzi take part in two very special daredevil challenges. There’s also a surprise for superfan Ed Sheeran and live music from Jonas Blue, HRVY, The Vamps and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Finally, over on CBeebies at 6.50pm, former presenter Janet Ellis is tonight’s Bedtime Stories reader. Rating: ****
