Fang-tastic frocks, creepy choreography and more pumpkins and cobwebs than you could shake a broomstick at – it can only be the Halloween special! Ignore the trick-or-treaters for a couple of hours and be transported into a world of ghoulish characters, as the make-up and costume designers surpass themselves once again. There’ll be drama, too – Alexandra and Gorka are on blistering form, after securing the first 10s of the series with their jaw-dropping jive, and let’s not forget their incredible paso doble a few weeks ago. Tune in for the results tomorrow, with a fun performance from pop group Steps. Rating: *****

Gunpowder, 9.10pm, BBC1

This gripping, taut and classy drama is revealing just how little we know about the most famous plot in British history.

This gripping, taut and classy drama is revealing just how little we know about the most famous plot in British history. Our education continues tonight, as Catesby and his cousin head to Spain to drum up support for his plan to kill King James I. Unsurprisingly, the authorities plump for negotiation over murder, and Catesby is sent packing, while sneaky Robert Cecil is hunting him down back in Britain. But there’s new hope for the zealous revolutionary when he finally meets the quiet and devout Guy Fawkes, and they plan to raise an army ready for a rebellion. We remember enough from school to know that this won’t end well. Rating: *****

Casualty, 8.20pm, BBC1

Casualty Dylan 28th October

Elle’s in a good mood tonight – Marty stayed over and she’s feeling loved up. Her sons aren’t so impressed with this latest development, though, and the romance is shattered for Elle when her new man hobbles into the ED with a rather embarrassing medical problem. Awkward! Meanwhile, it’s crunch time for Dylan – Louise is nagging him and deep down he knows something’s got to give. But how do you solve a problem like Sanosi? Rating: ****
