William Shatner has paid tribute to his Star Trek co-star Leonard Nimoy, who died at his home in California yesterday.
Shatner, 83, who played Captain Kirk alongside Nimoy as the half-human, half-Vulcan Mr Spock in the sci-fi series, said on Twitter: "I loved him like a brother. We will all miss his humor, his talent, and his capacity to love."
Zachary Quinto, who played Mr Spock in the Star Trek reboot in 2009 and its sequel Star Trek Into Darkness, also paid tribute to the actor. The two actors had a become friends after Nimoy appeared as the character in the first film of the franchise.
On photo-sharing site Instagram, Quinto posted a photo of Nimoy and wrote: " my heart is broken. i love you profoundly my dear friend. and i will miss you everyday. may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
George Takei, 77, who played Sulu alongside Nimoy in the cult US series, wrote about his friend in a Facebook post. Making a reference to Spock's famous phrase 'Live Long And Prosper,' he said: “Today, the world lost a great man, and I lost a great friend. We return you now to the stars, Leonard. You taught us to ‘Live Long And Prosper,’ and you indeed did, friend. I shall miss you in so many, many ways.”
Meanwhile, Star Trek fans – or Trekkies – found a way of marking his death by posting a scene from the 1982 film The Wrath Of Khan, which was the second outing in the original film franchise.

The excerpt shows the funeral of Mr Spock as Kirk and other members of the Starship Enterprise crew saying big a tearful farewell to their friend.
“Of my friend I can only say this," says Kirk. "Of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most human.”
