X Factor: Daniel gets the boot!
Daniel De Bourg has become the second person to be eliminated from the live finals of The X Factor . The 31-year-old dance teacher - the first of Louis' acts to get the boot - was voted out by the judges after failing to impress both them and the public with his rendition of The Foundations' hit Build Me Up Buttercup. Alisha Bennett narrowly escaped elimination for the second week running after also landing in the bottom two. Daniel's mentor Louis Walsh came in for criticism from the judges over his choice of song for Daniel. "Two words," Simon Cowell told him, "Fire Louis. The song was a joke and it made the whole performance desperate and pointless." Louis defended Daniel, however, saying he "owned the stage". This week's show saw the acts performing songs from movies, with guest mentor Celine Dion coaching them. The chart-topping singer also performed during the results show. There was plenty of praise for opening act Hope - whom Cowell described as "the best group we've ever had on The X Factor" and brother-sister duo Same Difference, whose performance of the High School Musical track Breaking Free impressed everybody except Louis. "You remind me of a 1970s Eurovision act," he told the perky pair - but Dannii, Sharon and Simon praised their performance. "You chose the perfect song, you totally and utterly nailed it," Simon said. Rhydian, meanwhile, wowed the judges with his rendition of Phantom Of The Opera, with even Sharon Osbourne being won over. "You're a bigger drama queen than me....but with a brilliant voice," she said, while Simon said the Welsh baritone was "not only good...potentially world class". Niki was also enthusiastically received, singing Celine Dion's own song My Heart Will Go On. Sharon said it was the "performance of the night", while Simon called her "fantastic". And there were good reviews also for Beverley, singing Whitney Houston's I Have Nothing, and Futureproof with their rendition of If You Don't Know Me By Now. However it wasn't such a good night for Andy, whose performance of Staying Alive was described as "karaoke" by both Louis and Simon. The pair also criticised Leon, while Emily received a mixed response from the judges for her version of Britney Spears' I'm Not A Girl Not Yet A Woman. The remaining ten acts will perform with a full orchestra on next Saturday's show, which has a big band theme.
