The X Factor's Jahmene Douglas upped his game even further during Saturday night's semi-final - as he made Nicole Scherzinger cry with a performance dedicated to his brother Daniel. The 21-year-old Asda worker left his mentor spellbound with his rendition of Whitney Houston's I Look To You in the first half of the show, when the remaining four acts performed songs they hoped would get them to the final. And afterwards, as she choked back the tears she told him, "I surrender. I could say that you're the strongest, most soulful, most dynamic singer that's not what it is about. What's so special is where that comes from." And Louis Walsh agreed, saying, "Every lyric meant so much to you. "There is no way you're going back to Asda, I think you're incredible." Jahmene had admitted earlier in the show that he had sung the song at the funeral of his brother, who tragically killed himself in 2008 - but had been unable to finish it. The second half of the show saw Jahmene return to the Etta James track At Last - which he performed at his original audition - and once again he won rave reviews from the judges. Louis told him, "You are born to sing," while Tulisa added, "Now I am seeing the fight - you are bringing it!" Meanwhile James Arthur also had a good evening, singing U2's One in the first half of the show and rounding off the evening with The Power Of Love, originally by Frankie Goes To Hollywood and more recently covered by Gabrielle Aplin. Tulisa said that his first performance was "worthy of going through to the final, while Gary summed up his second song by saying, "That was the performance of the series." The other two semi-finalists, Union J and Christopher Maloney, had more mixed fortunes with the judges. Union J performed Labrinth and Emeli Sande's recent chart-topper Beneath Your Beautiful in the first half of the show and the Westlife hit I'm Already There in the second, while Christopher sung a powerful rendition of Josh Groban's You Raise Me Up at the start of the show before tackling Michael Buble's I Haven't Met You Yet in the second. Gary told Union J after their first performance that "labels will be fighting for you", but said their second performance was "safe," while Nicole Scherzinger described them as "cheese free" in the first half of the show and was more upbeat about their second performance, telling Louis, "You are like a fifth member of this band." Christopher meanwhile won praise for You Raise Me Up with Louis calling it a 'brilliant' song choice, but wasn't so sure about his second song, saying, "Gary, I think you picked the wrong song." Tulisa - who has been critical of Christopher in previous shows, also praised his first performance but added the second, "wasn't as strong as your first performance." The results will be revealed on Sunday evening's show - and will be decided entirely by public vote with no sing-off for the bottom two acts.
