Across the country, fans are flocking to ballparks to celebrate that springtime rite of passage known as Opening Day of Major League Baseball. However, there's nothing quite like the postseason. Fight for Glory: 2024 World Series takes fans behinds the scenes for the matchup that featured Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Dodgers facing off against Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees.

The three-part documentary, premiering Friday, March 28 on Apple TV Plus, revolves around the World Series while taking time to highlight the unique paths the Dodgers and Yankees took to get there, including stories from the players and their families. Freddie Freeman and his family describe how his late season health struggles, coupled with his son's health scare, shaped the season.

Documentaries about the World Series and other major sporting events are nothing new, but what makes Fight for Glory so special is the unprecedented access that Emmy-winning director RJ Cutler and his crew had to the teams throughout the season and leading up to the main event.

The series follows along as the Dodgers and Yankees experience the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, culminating in the Dodgers' Game 5 victory against the Bronx Bombers. While the Dodgers came out to an early 3-0 lead, there were plenty of stories to tell as the Yankees rallied in Game 4 to pull off a win and live to play another day.

As a lifelong baseball fan, I've come to appreciate Apple TV Plus' MLB coverage. The first time I watched a San Diego Padres game on Friday Night Baseball, I was struck at how beautiful the game looked on the streamer. Thanks to the full measure of Apple TV Plus' vast arsenal of technology, baseball comes to life in a whole new way. It's no longer just a sporting event, it's cinematic. Seeing the World Series come to life in such a cinematic way is a real treat.

Fight for Glory has some heavy hitters behind it. In addition to Cutler, executive producers include Ron Howard, Brian Glazer and Derek Jeter. You can feel their love of the game in how they put the story together, weaving the two teams' journeys through the regular season and into the postseason. The story jumps from past to present and back again and is sprinkled with interviews and commentary from the players and their families, coaches, front office staffers and even fans.

I watched screeners of all three episodes and even though I watched the World Series live on television, Fight for Glory: 2024 World Series gave me a new appreciation not only for the event itself, but for the stories happening behind the scenes that fans have never been able to see until now. This was a labor of love by baseball fans, for baseball fans.

My sincere hope is that Major League Baseball and Apple TV Plus adopt Fight for Glory as an annual production. It's the new gold standard for baseball documentaries and it's a must-watch for baseball fans young and old.
