It’s time for a new crop of skilled bakers to flock to a tent and show off their skills in a series called Blue Ribbon Baking Championship

That’s right, we’re not talking about The Great British Bake Off this go-around, although we’ll credit the British series for setting the trend. In the new show, famed baker Sandra Lee pulls double duties as judge and co-host, alongside Jason Biggs, looking for a baker in America worthy of being called the best of the best among Blue-Ribbon winners. Blue Ribbon Baking Championship release date

The entire eight-episode season premieres on Netflix on Friday, August 9. Those hoping to watch the series need a subscription to the streaming service. Currently, Netflix offers several options for would-be subscribers. By the way, be sure to check out what else is new on Netflix

Blue Ribbon Baking Championship premise 

Here is the official synopsis of the series:

"For over 100 years, the American state fair has been the proving ground for the most wildly talented bakers across the United States. Now, for the first time ever, Blue Ribbon-winning bakers from state fairs across the nation get the chance to compete against each other in the Blue Ribbon Baking Championship. Featuring host Jason Biggs and co-host and judge Sandra Lee, 10 award-winning pastry masters from across the US gather to compete in the biggest blue ribbon bake-off yet – and the chance to win $100,000. Former White House pastry chef, Bill Yosses, and award-winning artisan baker, Bryan Ford, also serve as judges. Only the baker with the most delicious, inventive, and masterful delicacies will win the nation’s ultimate blue ribbon."

Blue Ribbon Baking Championship host

Serving as host for the inaugural season of the series is Jason Biggs. The actor shot to superstardom starring in the American Pie films, and since then has appeared in things like Orange Is the New Black, Outmatched, The Subject and recently starred in Best. Christmas. Ever! alongside Brandy Norwood.

Leading the way on the judges' panel is famous baker Sandra Lee, who also serves as Biggs’ cohost. Lee is a famous chef with a number of cookbooks and recognitions on her resume. She’s also well-versed in the TV space having served as a judge on shows like Chopped Junior, Halloween Baking Championship and Food Network Star. She also hosted Dinner Budget Showdown and a whopping 15 seasons of her own series, Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee, for which she earned a Daytime Emmy Award. 

Joining Lee at the judges' table are former White House pastry chef Bill Yosses and award-winning artisan baker, Bryan Ford. Yosses formerly co-hosted Baker’s Dozen and Ford hosted The Artisan’s Kitchen.
