The Barbados Royals look like the team to stop in this year's tournament, with their side of stars — captain Rovman Powell, Jason Holder, David Miller, Rahkeem Cornwall all included — gelling brilliantly to dominate the early running. It helps that South African batting machine Quinton de Kock is on a hot streak, leading the run scoring table by some distance.
Last year's losing finalists, the Trinbago Knight Riders, are just about keeping up. Homegrown talent such as Dwayne Bravo, Jayden Seales, Nicholas Pooran, Sunil Narine and captain Kieron Pollard are some of the best players in the world at this format.
Bajan bowler Shamar Springer has been in the wickets, but it's not been a happy reintroduction for his Antigua & Barbuda Falcons. The first Antiguan team in the CPL for over a decade have struggled to get out of first gear, with legendary coach Shivnarine Chanderpaul unable to inspire them to a successful inaugural season.
Champions Guyana Amazon Warriors are right in the hunt to defend the title they finally won for the first time last year. As are the St Lucia Kings, who have never won the CPL before. But it's been a sorry campaign for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots who are mathematically unable to make it through this year's group stage.
